Summit County Flatwork Concrete Contractors UT

Having a smooth and efficient walkway is paramount to creating an inviting and safe environment. Concrete is temperate, meaning it expands and  contracts seasonally. Here in the Wasatch we experience extreme temperature swings and winter weather. When installing a sidewalk it is necessary to install expansion joints to ensure that concrete has the space to expand during the Summer and Winter months in order to prevent cracks. These joints are most commonly used in sidewalks because they are thin compared to other concrete flatwork. In this climate, they typically range from 4-6” in depth.

Parking Lots

The state of your parking lot is often one of the first impressions your customer has about your business. Maintaining a parking lot with no potholes, clean painted lines, and smooth traffic flow can increase the number of patrons visiting your building and enhance your business’s appearance. A properly installed parking lot saves you time, money, and headaches. It can help prevent accidents, frustration, and confusion for your customers.

Driveways are one of the most familiar examples of concrete flatwork, although most driveways aren’t completely flat. Concrete driveways are laid on an imperceptible slope to prevent water from pooling. This is to prevent damage due to standing water. Most driveways for common vehicles are about 4 inches thick. Driveways for heavier vehicles like trucks, trailers, RVs, and boats can be 6-8 inches thick. Concrete at that thickness performs best when reinforced with rebar.

In general, rebar reinforcing is recommended for most concrete installs. Despite the strength of concrete, it is natural to experience some cracking without it, especially at higher elevations throughout the Rocky Mountains.

Cement Pads

A cement pad’s depth depends on what will be resting on top of it. It is common to reinforce cement pads with rebars throughout Summit and Wasatch County. Sometimes drains are added to ensure no erosion occurs due to standing water.
